It certainly didn’t come easy, but Coach K won his 900th career game with the victory over Michigan.
Coach K is chasing mentor Bobby Knight as the all-time winningest college coach. He finished with 902 victories.
That means that Coach K can possibly tie or pass Knight this season if his team can get deep enough into the tournament.
A trip to the Final Four would tie him with Knight, and a victory or two there would break the record. (Read More…)

Freshman sensation Kyrie Irving finally returned to the court for the Duke Blue Devils after missing three months with an injury to his toe.
Irving came off the bench as expected, and Coach K held true to his promise that the point guard would only see limited action in his first game back.
While Irving has been practicing with the team for awhile, you could tell that he was a little rusty in his first few appearances into the game.
He finally seemed to settle down a bit in the second half and started to at least resemble the Irving we saw earlier in the season.
Irving finished with a game-high 14 points as the Blue Devils smashed the Hampton Pirates in the first round of the NCAA tournament.

The Duke Blue Devils fell behind early and could never quite catch the North Carolina Tar Heels in an 81-67 loss.
The Blue Devils shot just 6-27 from three-point range, and they aren’t going to win a lot of games when they struggle that much from that area.
Duke seemed overwhelmed by the quicker, more athletic Tar Heels in a game that, at least for a half, resembled their first meeting.
The difference this time is that Duke didn’t seem to be able to rattle North Carolina in the second half, even when they went on a quick run to close the gap. (Read More…)

The Duke Blue Devils struggled throughout the night with their outside shot and became the latest top ranked team to go down, falling to Virginia Tech, 64-60.
Nolan Smith was terrific, but the rest of his teammates really struggled, especially when it came to knocking down wide-open three-pointers.
Kyle Singler was solid at the free throw line but couldn’t buy a basket from the field, Ryan Kelly missed a number of three’s and Stephen Curry failed to score.
If it hadn’t been for Virginia Tech’s own offensive struggles and how well the Blue Devils took care of the basketball, they could have easily been blown out. (Read More…)

Duke Blue Devils star senior forward Kyle Singler is recovering after undergoing left knee surgery.
The forward was having some discomfort in his knee so he elected to go ahead and have the surgery now.
It was not a very invasive surgery, and by having it now rather than later, he should be back in time for the start of practice in mid October.
He scored nearly 18 points per game last year in helping the Blue Devils win the national championship. (Read More…)

With head coach Mike Krzyzewski busy working with Team USA this summer, assistant coach Steve Wojciechowski has been a busy man.
Wojo has been left in charge of the Duke Blue Devils while Coach K works on molding NBA players into a cohesive unit.
So many of Coach K’s former players have become assistants under him, only to then go on and receive head coaching gigs.
Wojo said that he is simply doing the things that Coach K would be doing were he with the team.
He elected to skip both July recruiting and working with Team USA to stay home and address his wife’s health concerns and take charge of the Duke basketball program. (Read More…)
